- Voluntary Input: We collect the data you enter into the calculator (such as
temperatures, loads, and equipment specs) solely to perform the calculation.
- Log Data: Our hosting provider (Microsoft Azure) automatically collects standard log
files, which may include IP addresses, browser types, and access times.

4. Third-Party Hosting
This application is hosted on Microsoft Azure. By using this service, you acknowledge that your data passes
through Azure's infrastructure.
5. Third-Party Data Sources
To provide accurate heating and cooling analysis, BalancePoint retrieves data from the following external
sources:
- NOAA/NCEI: Historical hourly weather observations are retrieved from NOAA's National
Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) Integrated Surface Database (ISD) to calculate heating and
cooling degree days for your location.
- NEEP: Heat pump performance data is sourced from the Northeast Energy Efficiency
Partnerships (NEEP) Cold Climate Air Source Heat Pump
List.
6. Open-Source Software Attribution
BalancePoint is built with the help of several open-source libraries. We gratefully acknowledge:
- eeweather
(Apache 2.0) — Used to map zip codes to nearby ISD weather stations for retrieving historical
weather data. Developed by the Open Energy
Efficiency Meter project.
- timezonefinder
(MIT) — Used to determine the correct timezone for a customer's location based on geographic
coordinates.
- pandas (BSD 3-Clause) —
Core data manipulation library used throughout the application.
